UNTITLED.SHOWA Exhibition in KYOTO

There will be an Untitled.Showa exhibition involving the local community held from 17 September to 17 October in the Daieidori shopping street in Uzumasa, Kyoto, where many of the Untitled.Showa photographs have been taken. The exhibition has been selected for KG+, an umbrella event of the International Photography Festival, KYOTOGRAPHIE.

DAIEIDORI

The Daieidori shopping street, once called the Hollywood of Japan, developed with the Daiei Kyoto Studios, which lead the heyday of Japanese cinema. It started as a night market after the war, with stalls lining the street on the 5th, 15th and 26^th of every month. As time went on, markets, supermarkets, banks and more, opened one after the other, and the shopping street became more prestigious. In August 1971, the “Daieidori Shopping Street Promotion Association” was established. This summer it celebrates its 50th anniversary.

京都・太秦での展示

9月17日〜10月17日、Untitled.Showa の写真の多くが撮影された、京都・太秦の「大映通り商店街」にて、地域を巻き込んだ展示会が、毎年恒例の国際写真祭KYOTOGRAPHIEの関連イベント「KG+」の一環として開催決定！

大映通り

日本映画の最盛期を支えた「大映京都撮影所」とともに発展し、かつては日本のハリウッドと呼ばれた大映通り商店街。その始まりは「夜店通り」でした。戦後、生活道路に毎月・５日・15日・26日に夜店が出店するようになり、時代を追うごとに、市場、スーパー、銀行…と次々に出店。商店街としての格式が整ってきました。そして昭和46年８月に、法人組織「大映通り商店街振興組合」を設立。この夏で、ちょうど50周年を迎えました。
