  1. We received a comment from a student at Tsukuba University:

    This photo was most probably taken in China. It says, “There are also chrysanthemum flowers in China too. Chrysanthemum flowers and me.” Other characters are difficult to decipher (old characters), but it may be, “Letter from the barracks”. It seems that this man was dispatched to China by the Army.

    おそらく中国で撮影された写真かと思います。『中国にも菊の花はあります。菊の花と小生(私)』と書かれています。その他の文字は判読できませんが、『兵舎内よりの便り』(旧字体)かもしれません。陸軍から中国に派遣された方のようです。

    • 「菊花に小生 仮兵舎内にて」ではないでしょうか。軍事郵便の可能性も。
