Thank you to all students from Kwansei Gakuin University, School of Policy Studies’s Mutsumi Tsuda Lab for your interim report on your research for Untitled.Showa.

The students made much progress. The students have now:

  • confirmed that photographs 032, 079, and 080 was taken at Kamigoryo Jinja (Shrine) in Kamigyo ward in Kyoto.
  • confirmed that the uniform worn by the boy/s in photographs 087 and 088 was indeed those of Notre Dame Elementary School in Kyoto. Their uniforms are slightly different now, but after contacting the school itself, then their alumni association,  the students finally got a hold of a Sister living in the United States, who confirmed that this was the uniform 50 or so years ago.
  • obtained some documents from Kinema Kitchen, a cafe restaurant in Daiei Dori (street) in Uzumasa, Kyoto, to study the history and staff of Daiei Kyoto Film Studios. Kinema Kitchen holds memorabilia and other documents from the Daiei Kyoto Film Studios.
  • confirmed that although the address on photograph 317 is no longer occupied by the addressee, and now a newly built home with new occupants, their neighbours have given them leads to follow up in the days to come.
